Nectar Recipe for Sunbirds

This Recipe was originally intended for sunbirds, but you will find that other birds in your garden
become familiar with this nectar and start to look forward to their afternoon cocktail.

You will need:

1 small beetroot
2 cups of water
2 teaspoons of ProNutro
2 teaspoons of honey
1/2 teaspoon of Bovril
A clean plastic 500ml soft-drink bottle.

Preparations:

  • Boil the beetroot in the water until the water turns red.   Discard the beetroot.
  • Mix the ProNutro, honey and Bovril in the red water until fully dissolved.
  • Stir and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature before pouring it into the bottle.
  • Make a tiny hole in the lid of the bottle and hang the bottle upside down so that the mixture drips slowly through the lid when the bird's beak touches it.

  1. The best "food" for sunbirds is 1 part regular sugar to 4 parts water. No dye, no nothing else! KISS - Keep it simple.....
