Making Your Own Bird Feeder


While many of the bird food that are especially
repaired for the birds in your garden can simply be put out  on a table, you may need  a more specialized feeder to dispense birdseed, fruit or nectar.

There are many types of bird feeders.  They include hopper, tube, platform and nectar feeders.  A hanging trey feeder can be used to serve a variety of foods.

Making your own feeders is easy and is a good way to recycle used containers and soft-drink bottles.  Make sure you round off all the cut or pierced holes.  Once you have made a few feeders, you will be able to invent your own.  Use your imagination and have fun.

Hopper Feeder


Hopper feeders are little house feeders.  They have a platform , walls and a roof.  They protect bird food against all types of weather and attract both large and smaller birds, depending on the type of seeds you place in the feeder.  You must be especially careful about regular cleaning as these feeders hold large amounts of seeds and do not need to be filled often.

Tube Feeders


These are made of hollow cylinders that can provide multiple feeding ports and perches.  Tube feeders generally keep bird seeds dry.

Platform Feeders


Platform feeders consists of a try on which the feed is placed.  These feeders offer little protection against the weather and creatures that might steel the bird's food.

Sunbird Feeders


These come in different shapes and sizes.  They are enclosed, are typically made of glass and often have three to five feeding ports.  These ports may be surrounded with red plastic guards to attract the sunbirds.  The feeder should be washed every three days and the content replaced.

Fruit Feeders


Fruit feeders come in a variety of shapes and sizes.  They generally hold fruit on a spick
